The hit song “Rich Men North Of Richmond” by Virginia-based musician Oliver Anthony has become one of the most popular songs in the country. Oliver Anthony has denied “corporate news” assertions that he is a supporter of Vice President Biden.
Anthony offered his opinions about his hit song being played in the GOP presidential debate in Milwaukee earlier this week in a video that he published to YouTube on Friday. “It was funny seeing my song at that presidential debate. Because I wrote that song about those people, you know, so for them to have to sit there and listen to that, that cracks me up. It was funny kind of seeing the response to it,” Anthony said.

Major news organizations including the New York Times and Washington Post misinterpreted the artist’s statement as a display of support for the president until he explained that his song was not about Joe Biden. However, the performer stressed that his song encompasses a wider range of people on stage and beyond, going well beyond Joe Biden.
Anthony’s declaration ignites contentious discussions about his political stances and prompts opposing interpretations from conservatives and liberals. He states on Facebook that he does not support Joe Biden in order to clear up any misunderstandings.
“Corporate news (big surprise) is now trying to twist me into being a Biden supporter,” Anthony wrote. He continued by saying that he was referring to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ response to the question of why the song was connecting with Americans, in which DeSantis claimed that most of the country’s issues are a result of Biden’s policies.
“Biden is a big part of the issue, bit it runs much deeper,” Anthony said. “‘Rich Men North of Richmond’ is about corporate owned DC politicians on both sides. Though Biden’s most certainly a problem, the lyrics aren’t exclusively knocking Biden, it’s bigger and broader than that. It’s knocking the system collectively. Including the corporate owned conservative politicians that were on stage that night.”
