Former President Barack Obama is facing fierce criticism after posting a social media statement following the shocking assassination attempt targeting President Donald Trump during Saturday night’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, D.C.
The violent incident sent panic through one of the most high-profile political gatherings of the year, forcing Secret Service agents to evacuate President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, members of the Cabinet, journalists, and hundreds of guests.
But instead of addressing what many viewed as clear political hatred behind the attack, Obama posted a message suggesting investigators still did not know why the suspect acted.
“Although we don’t yet have the details about the motives behind last night’s shooting at the White House Correspondents Dinner, it’s incumbent upon all us to reject the idea that violence has any place in our democracy,” Obama wrote on X. “It’s also a sobering reminder of the courage and sacrifice that U.S. Secret Service Agents show every day.”
