According to a recent report from Punchbowl News, the House Republican Conference narrowly picked a candidate to advance to a vote on the entire floor of the House by a vote of 113-99.
According to Jake Sherman of Punchbowl, who appeared on X, “STEVE SCALISE is the House Republican’s nominee for speaker of the House. 113-99,” beating Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), the House Judiciary Committee’s current chairman.
Since 2014, Congressman Steve Scalise has played a significant role in the US House of Representatives. He is a well-known member of the House Leadership. He presently holds the prestigious post of Majority Leader and will serve as both House Minority Whip and House Majority Whip until 2022. Scalise has also proven his authority by serving as the leader of the Republican Study Committee, a strong conservative caucus in the House.
Confirmation of Scalise’s rapid advancement, as reported by Trending Politics News.
Sherman had made a post earlier in the day, “Steve Scalise is now the clear favorite to become the GOP’s nominee for speaker. He could wrap this up today. The Scalise whip operation worked overtime over the last few days to defeat a motion to change the party’s rules to nominate a speaker. We’ve been writing about Team Scalise’s institutional advantages. They are gigantic.”
According to a Newsmax report by Benny Johnson, Scalise garnered 113 votes while Jordan received 99. Unexpectedly, eight GOP Conference members opted to cast a “present” vote.
Kyle Becker predicts a vote on the House floor this afternoon.
If elected, Scalise would be the first Louisiana representative to hold the office of Speaker.
Will the GOP conference’s whole membership abide by the choice made during a floor vote? Will there be numerous voting rounds until conservative holdouts concede, as happened in the election of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy in 2021, or will something similar occur?
CBS’s Major Garrett commented, “Can Republicans coalesce at this moment? If they can, he’ll be the next speaker. If they can’t, we’re in for another protracted battle.”

According to Brian Allen through X, “Rep. Lauren Boebert expressed her intention to vote for Jim Jordan during the speaker election. Rep. Troy Nehls is uncertain if Republicans will unite behind the nominee and remains committed to supporting Jordan, without confirming support for Scalise if he wins internally. He calls for House floor votes on a speaker regardless of the nominee’s vote count.”
Ryan Nobles of MSNBC reported from the House.
“Already there are members of the Republican Conference telling my colleague Ali Vitali that they will not vote for Steve Scalise on the floor of the House.”

Trump has not yet commented on Scalise’s nomination.

I want Trey Gowdy to be speaker.
