For Pastor Ezra Jin, Independence Day carried a meaning far beyond fireworks and celebration. After spending nine months inside a Chinese prison, the Christian pastor finally stepped off a plane in Los Angeles on the Fourth of July, reunited with freedom after a lengthy ordeal at the hands of the Chinese Communist Party.
But while Jin’s release made headlines, a new investigation suggests his story represents only a tiny fraction of a much larger campaign against Christians inside communist China.
According to a recent report from The Telegraph, Chinese leader Xi Jinping’s government has dramatically intensified its campaign against independent Christian churches, with thousands of believers allegedly arrested, detained, or imprisoned simply for refusing to submit their faith to Communist Party control.
