California Governor Gavin Newsom is once again proving that political posturing trumps principle in his world. After a chaotic shooting during a federal operation in his own state, Newsom didn’t condemn the violence first — he lashed out at a conservative critic instead.
Federal agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a legal raid last week on Glass House Farms, a massive marijuana operation in Ventura County. The search took place in Camarillo and Carpinteria, where agents had properly secured warrants before moving in.
But before agents even arrived, news of the upcoming raid reached activist groups determined to stop it. Anti-ICE agitators swarmed the area, creating a tense and hostile environment. What began as a protest quickly spiraled out of control.
During the chaos, one of the protesters drew a weapon and opened fire in the direction of federal officers. Thankfully, none of the agents were injured — but the outcome could’ve been far worse. A tragedy was only narrowly avoided.
