The Republican Minority Leader of the Senate, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, pleaded with other senators to oppose a feeble border bill that has Democratic support. The talks about funding for Israel and Ukraine as well as domestic security have been hampered by this sudden action.
Mitch McConnell, a Republican from Kentucky, urged his colleagues to vote against a contentious agreement that has drawn criticism from conservatives during a private GOP meeting. Up to 5,000 illegal migrant crossings per day would be permitted under the agreement, which is substantially fewer than the current rate along the southern border. The Democrats’ and Senator James Lankford’s attempts to negotiate harsher immigration laws in exchange for financing foreign wars are likely to be thwarted by McConnell’s worries. Speaker of the House Mike Johnson has previously declared that any legislation pertaining to the border would be defeated, claiming that the laws being proposed would cause more harm than good.

Johnson defended his decision not to hold a vote in a recent Fox News interview, claiming that doing so would strengthen Alejandro Mayorkas’s position as Homeland Security Secretary and encourage illegal immigration. Republicans in the House are actively working to have him impeached at the moment.
“What it would do is actually further incentivize illegal immigration,” Johnson said on Fox. “It would not resolve any of the problems, not reform in any meaningful way the broken asylum system, the broken parole process and all the things that have created this catastrophe. And, by the way, meanwhile, it further empowers the very Cabinet Secretary who designed and created this mess. They don’t follow federal law. Why would we do this anyway? But the bill itself would actually do more harm than good and that’s why we have said it’s a non-starter over here in the House.”
Sen. Lankford has come under attack from critics who say he was duped by McConnell into changing the bill after he took a risk to support it.
The Federalist’s founder, Sean Davis, has referred to the majority leader’s recent actions as a classic case of bait and switch. Davis claims that this leader will leave you and then hurt you in order to defend themselves.
Undoubtedly, McConnell chose Lankford for this kamikaze mission for two reasons: 1) Lankford won’t be running for office again until 2028, and 2) Lankford lacked the skills and intelligence to take on Schumer and Biden, whose positions on immigration and Ukraine are exactly the same as McConnell’s.
“It was vintage Mitch McConnell: work feverishly behind the scenes on behalf of his donors and the Uniparty to fleece taxpayers, pick an unsuspecting dupe to bear the public burden of carrying McConnell’s slop bucket, then throw the poor dupe right under the bus when everything goes sideways,” he added.
During a 90-minute GOP meeting, Republican senators expressed their disapproval of the $118 billion spending package, according to POLITICO. McConnell finally gave in, even though he had previously backed the notion of associating increased border security with foreign funding. He informed his colleagues that they could vote against the bill if they disagreed with the direction it was taking. Two attendees said that McConnell did not vehemently support or oppose the bill.
ALERT! Major Water Restrictions In Effect!
With his adamant opposition to the agreement, Donald Trump has given conservatives more ammunition to blame Biden for the increase in unauthorized immigration rather than holding talks in an election year.
“The ridiculous ‘Border’ Bill is nothing more than a highly sophisticated trap for Republicans to assume the blame on what the Radical Left Democrats have done to our Border, just in time for our most important EVER Election. Don’t fall for it!!!” President Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“We need a separate Border and Immigration Bill. It should not be tied to foreign aid in any way, shape, or form! The Democrats broke Immigration and the Border. They should fix it.”
