Netflix Show For Toddlers Introduces “Non-Binary” Identity
An episode of a Netflix preschool cartoon that included a “nonbinary” character accepting “they/them” pronouns caused controversy. Despite the show’s discontinuation and the suspension of further productions, fans may still watch it on the streaming service.
An enigmatic female bison known as “Winifred” undergoes an identity makeover and takes the name “Fred” in the thrilling climax of the famed children’s series “Ridley Jones.” But, tension develops as Fred worries about telling Granny Dottie—whose voice is legendary thanks to Cyndie Lauper—about her new identity.

The scene in Ridley Jones where our protagonist asks Fred about his gender is fascinating. “I don’t know… they’re just a Fred.” is the deliciously enigmatic reply that leaves us wondering. Be enthralled by the interesting uncertainty and shocking turns in this compelling story.
In a scenario that is sure to perplex the show’s young viewers, the bison character says to Ridley Jones, “The last time I saw my grandma, I used a different name and pronouns. Now grandma doesn’t know I’ve changed.”
“She still thinks I’m her granddaughter instead of her grand… Fred,” The baby bison speaks.

As the show progresses, Fred and Grandmother Dottie have an engrossing conversation in which they reveal their non-binary identities. This fascinating and current idea is deftly introduced for the intellectual stimulation of young, curious brains.
Fred says to the grandmother bison, “My heart says that the way I feel most myself is to go by the name Fred. That’s because I’m non-binary, and Fred is the name that fits me best.”
The project’s creative geniuses welcomed the gender ideology lesson, broadening its boundaries with the exciting addition of pronouns.
“And I also use they and them, because calling me a she or a he doesn’t feel right to me,” Fred said.
Concerns concerning the show’s promotion of progressive LGBTQ+ themes have been raised by several reviewers, who wonder if it is suitable to introduce such sophisticated concepts of non-binary identity to a young audience.
Ian Miles Cheong, a respected journalist, has taken a daring step by urging viewers to cancel their Netflix memberships as a potent protest against the service’s ostensibly constant promotion of a “woke” ideology.
Famous author Ryan James Girdusky posted a clip from the divisive episode, calling its subject matter wholly repugnant.
When a series’ last episode was published last week, Netflix subtly chose against renewing it for a second season. The show’s creator, Chris Nee, was disappointed with the platform’s minimal promotion, particularly for an episode focused on a non-binary character, expecting the progressive streaming giant to have displayed greater enthusiasm about it.
Nee, who was obviously discouraged, bemoaned Netflix’s decision to quietly release the eagerly awaited fifth season without any fanfare.
“Doesn’t surprise me that Netflix has quietly dumped the first preschool show that has a non-binary character coming out. [In] Ridley Jones 5 episode Happy Herd Day Fred tells their Grandma played by [Cyndi Lauper] that they’ve changed their name and pronouns. Watch it. Tweet about it.”

Nee advised parents to watch the program with their children, stating, “It’s important. It’s a roadmap for coming out but also for having someone else tell you they’ve changed their pronouns and/or name.”
I realize in this day and age dumped means many things. Just zero promotion of the episode. So go watch it. Show your kids. It’s on Netflix. It’s important.
