California Gov. Gavin Newsom just took a brutal hit from an unlikely source — MSNBC’s own Joe Scarborough. On Wednesday morning’s episode of “Morning Joe,” Scarborough didn’t hold back, blasting Newsom as nothing short of an “embarrassment.”
For a network that usually bends over backward to defend Democrats, this moment was remarkable. Scarborough ripped into Newsom’s repeated blunders, mocking his failed attempts to spar with President Trump while ignoring the mess back home in California.
Scarborough’s Rocky Comparison
Scarborough went so far as to compare Newsom’s political missteps to the story of Chuck Wepner, the underdog boxer who inspired the movie Rocky. In the film, Wepner takes on a fight designed to humiliate him, yet earns respect for simply enduring. Scarborough said Newsom’s fights with Trump are the same — symbolic battles that Democrats can’t win.
