Montana Woman SCAMMED—$90K Love Trap!

A heartbreaking case out of Montana is shining a glaring spotlight on the exploding epidemic of online romance scams preying on vulnerable Americans searching for companionship.

Rita, a 66-year-old woman enduring the pain of divorce, was convinced she had found solace when a charismatic stranger posing as a famous figure slid into her online world. Instead, she ended up losing her life savings and much more.

“It hit me at the right time. I was very vulnerable at that time, going through a divorce,” Rita confessed in a public warning issued by the FBI to alert citizens about these devastating cons.

The predator cleverly mirrored her circumstances, claiming to be weathering a divorce himself. That shared struggle became the bait in a sophisticated emotional trap. “He was going through a divorce. I was going through this also and so we kind of connected emotionally on that and then it just morphed into something more romantic,” she recalled.
