Unlike Biden’s failed “catch-and-release” approach, Braun’s facility ensures that illegal border crossers won’t simply vanish into American neighborhoods.
Noem Makes the Warning Loud and Clear
Joining Braun in the announcement, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem issued a blunt message to those breaking U.S. immigration law.
“COMING SOON to Indiana: The Speedway Slammer. Today, we’re announcing a new partnership with the state of Indiana to expand detention bed space by 1,000 beds,” Noem said.
She didn’t mince words: “Thanks to Governor Braun for his partnership to help remove the worst of the worst out of our country. If you are in America illegally, you could find yourself in Indiana’s Speedway Slammer. Avoid arrest and self deport now using the CBP Home App.”
Part of Trump’s National Deportation Infrastructure
The Speedway Slammer isn’t an isolated project — it’s part of a nationwide expansion of detention facilities backed by Trump’s latest reconciliation bill, which funds 80,000 new beds across the country.
The legislation also pumps resources into the 287(g) program, empowering ICE to work directly with local law enforcement.
For years under Biden and Harris, Democrats fought to shrink detention space, making it easier for illegal immigrants to disappear. Trump’s plan flips the script completely, ensuring there’s space to hold those awaiting removal.
Following Florida’s “Alligator Alcatraz” Model
Braun’s plan mirrors Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ “Alligator Alcatraz” facility, which already holds 2,000 detainees and is set to double capacity.
“I’m pleased to report that those flights out of Alligator Alcatraz by DHS have begun. The cadence is increasing. We’ve already had a number of flights, in the last few days, we’ve had hundreds of illegals [that] have been removed from here,” DeSantis announced recently.
These state-level detention centers give Trump’s deportation strategy the muscle it needs to succeed.
A Clear Red vs. Blue Divide on Immigration
While Democrat-led states declare themselves “sanctuaries” and actively defy federal immigration law, Republican Governors are building the facilities to enforce it.
Indiana’s 1,000-bed capacity will relieve pressure on other detention centers and keep deportation operations moving efficiently.
“Indiana is taking a comprehensive and collaborative approach to combating illegal immigration and will continue to lead the way among states,” Braun affirmed.
Democrats Fear This Will Work
For the Left, the danger isn’t the facility itself — it’s that it might actually work. They know that detention space is essential for real enforcement, which is exactly why they’ve spent years trying to limit it.
Now, with red states partnering directly with federal authorities, Trump’s mass deportation pledge looks more achievable than ever.
The Speedway Slammer isn’t just a building. It’s a statement — and a warning — that the days of open borders and easy entry are coming to an end.
