ABC News just got caught red-handed trying to cover its tracks. For weeks, the liberal network described Kilmar Abrego Garcia — an illegal immigrant with domestic violence accusations and suspected gang ties — as simply a “Maryland man.” Now, without fanfare or explanation, they’ve changed their tune, finally admitting he’s a “Salvadoran man.”
The update to their reporting wasn’t announced or highlighted — it slipped in quietly as the heat on the case intensified. Conservatives are calling it a clear example of the media’s ongoing effort to downplay the dangers posed by illegal immigration and to spin sympathetic stories about individuals who threaten American communities.
The case centers around Abrego Garcia’s 2025 deportation to El Salvador. Despite previously being shielded from removal after claiming he faced gang threats back home, the Trump administration pushed through his deportation earlier this year. When ABC first reported on him on April 14, they painted a misleading picture of a “Maryland man” wronged by the system. But by May 6, that soft framing disappeared, replaced with the far more accurate label of “Salvadoran man.”
Conservative watchdogs immediately flagged the shift. One post pointed out, “ABC News has quietly changed their reporting on Kilmar Abrego Garcia from ‘Maryland man’ to ‘Salvadoran man.’ I think they owe the entire Trump Administration an apology.”
