Conservatives across the country were blindsided late Friday when Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene released a nearly eleven minute video and a lengthy four page resignation letter confirming she will officially step down from Congress on January 5, 2026. The Georgia firebrand, who has been one of the most outspoken voices in the House, made the unexpected announcement directly on X.
Her decision lands after months of internal tension inside the conservative movement and a very public clash over the release of the Jeffrey Epstein client list. Greene had repeatedly pushed for full transparency on the Epstein files, a move that triggered fierce pushback from powerful corners of the Republican landscape. President Donald Trump publicly scolded her on Truth Social, withdrew his endorsement, and blasted her for what he described as disloyal behavior.
In her video message, Greene let supporters know exactly why she decided to walk away from Congress. “I have too much self respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms.”
