In a shocking revelation that raises serious concerns over election integrity in Arizona, a recently surfaced deposition transcript from June 21, 2024, shows Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer expressing an intent to harm Kari Lake’s political future. In texts revealed in his defamation lawsuit against Lake and her husband, Richer allegedly disclosed his desire to “make life hell for Kari Lake,” even considering a Senate run himself to challenge her. Now, as Lake fights for a seat in the U.S. Senate, Richer is among the officials responsible for counting the votes.
The deposition transcript, obtained by The Gateway Pundit, captures a detailed exchange in which Richer describes himself as “anti-MAGA,” adding further fuel to the claims of bias against Lake, a prominent MAGA supporter and former Arizona gubernatorial candidate. Richer’s statements are especially alarming, considering his role in overseeing elections that Lake and her supporters allege were marred by irregularities and technical failures that disadvantaged Republican voters.

This isn’t the first time Richer has publicly declared his opposition to MAGA candidates. After the contentious 2022 midterm elections, where voting machine failures reportedly left up to 60% of Maricopa County’s polling places unable to operate properly, Richer created a political action committee (PAC) to challenge candidates aligned with the MAGA movement. The Pro-Democracy Republicans PAC, backed by dark money donations, aimed to defeat candidates who, like Lake, support the MAGA agenda. Richer also openly admitted to voting for Democrats in that election and has expressed intentions to support President Joe Biden in the 2024 presidential race.
