President Trump revealed dramatic new details Saturday about the U.S. military operation that led to the capture of Venezuelan strongman Nicolas Maduro, describing a fast moving nighttime raid that left the dictator no chance to escape.
Appearing on Fox and Friends, Trump confirmed that Maduro was seized inside what he described as a fortified residence and was removed by helicopter before he could reach a secure room designed to protect him from attack.
Trump said he personally watched the mission unfold overnight from Florida and emphasized that the operation was carried out with precision and overwhelming force.
According to the president, U.S. forces encountered a structure built more like a military installation than a home. Steel doors and a hardened safety space were installed to shield Maduro from exactly the type of assault that came for him.
But Trump said Maduro never made it inside.
“He was trying to get into it, but he got bum rushed so fast that he didn’t get into there.”
