AFL referenced a recent case in Chicago, where authorities were called to investigate gang activity within a residential building, again tied to Venezuelan nationals. Just days later, on September 5, authorities in western Wisconsin arrested an individual believed to be a member of Tren de Aragua, on multiple charges related to domestic violence.
America First Legal did not mince words in its criticism of the Biden-Harris administration’s border policies, which they argue have enabled these violent gangs to take root in the U.S. “These gang members would not be present if the United States had a secure southern border,” AFL wrote in its press release. The legal group believes that the administration’s decision to relax immigration enforcement has directly contributed to the rise of dangerous foreign gangs.
AFL has filed multiple requests for information from DHS and the FBI, seeking to uncover communications between federal and state law enforcement regarding the presence of Tren de Aragua members in Colorado, Illinois, and Wisconsin. Gene Hamilton, Executive Director of America First Legal, offered a scathing critique of the administration’s handling of immigration and border security. In his statement, he accused the Biden-Harris team of deliberately opening the U.S. borders, thus allowing violent gangs like Tren de Aragua to wreak havoc in American communities. “The Biden-Harris administration’s deliberate decision to open our borders to the world is what allowed for violent Venezuelan gangs to run rampant in American communities,” Hamilton stated.
He further argued that the crimes committed by these individuals could have been prevented if stricter immigration policies had been enforced. “The crimes committed by these aliens are—by definition—preventable, but this administration has decided to ignore public safety and prioritize the importation of hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens,” Hamilton added.

In his closing remarks, Hamilton called out Vice President Kamala Harris, who was appointed by President Biden as the administration’s “Border Czar.” He criticized her lack of decisive action in addressing the growing threat of foreign gang violence, implying that her efforts thus far have been insufficient. “If Border Czar Harris were serious about eliminating the threat of foreign gang behavior in the United States, she would secure the border and deport illegal aliens from the United States. It’s that simple,” he said.
