The family of Karmelo Anthony is seeking another round of financial support as the 19-year-old prepares to appeal his murder conviction in the death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf.
A new crowdfunding campaign has been launched with a $250,000 target to help cover the legal expenses expected to arise during the appeal. Organizers announced the effort during a news conference at a church in southeast Dallas, coming only days after a judge rejected Anthony’s request for a new trial.
Anthony was convicted in June 2026 in connection with the April 2, 2025, stabbing death of Metcalf at a high school track meet in Frisco, Texas. A Collin County jury ultimately found Anthony guilty of murder and sentenced him to 35 years behind bars.
