Even though Lake and the establishment have clashed in the past, she has significantly softened her image and reached out to her detractors. Her NRSC endorsement portends a united Republican front in Arizona, a state that has been hotly competitive in recent elections but has moved toward the Democratic Party.

“Kari Lake is the poster child for Senate Republicans’ candidate quality problem and abysmal recruiting strategy,” stated in a statement Tommy Garcia, a spokesman for the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. “An election loser despised by Arizona Republicans, Lake brings massive baggage and disqualifying flaws to the campaign. We’re thrilled with the N.R.S.C.’s choice.”
The head of the Arizona Republican Party resigned last month after a video surfaced that showed him pressuring Lake to accept cash or a position in exchange for her dropping her campaign. He sent his resignation notice citing worries about “her limited appeal with moderates and independents, and her being a drag on the entire ticket.”
Lake’s NRSC support sets the setting for a hotly contested struggle as the Arizona Senate race heats up, which may be further complicated by the presence of incumbent independent Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ). Now that Lake’s campaign has strong support from the establishment, it has to work toward regaining a crucial Senate seat for the Republican Party.
