Lake claimed in a statement that Politico was first given access to, “I am honored to have the endorsement of Chairman Daines and the NRSC.’ She added, ‘We are uniting Republicans in Arizona and have a clear path to victory, The Senate Majority runs through Arizona.”
According to Politico, the NRSC, supported by leaders including Senate GOP Conference Chair John Barrasso (R-WY) and Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT), will host a fundraiser for Lake in Washington on March 6. Barrasso, who has already endorsed Lake, will further bolster her party support by campaigning for her in Arizona.
“I did come away impressed. I thought she was not at all like the caricature that’s sometimes painted of her in the media. She was very engaging, she was very warm,” said a GOP contributor who met Lake during the retreat and was allowed to speak anonymously about a private discussion.
The contributor, who is presently leaning toward supporting Lake, stated that policy was the focus of Lake’s attention rather than political tactics. “I don’t know if I should have been surprised by that part, but I was.”
The success of Lake’s efforts to mend fences with the Republican establishment is demonstrated by the momentum her campaign has gained and the involvement of powerful GOP strategists and fundraisers. Her attendance at the NRSC winter conference in Palm Beach, Florida, gave her the opportunity to speak with senators and powerful funders face-to-face.
