President Donald Trump announced what could become the most significant breakthrough in the Russia-Ukraine war since the conflict exploded into a grinding bloodbath more than three years ago.
In a surprise announcement Friday, Trump revealed that Moscow and Kyiv will temporarily halt combat operations for three days while negotiations continue behind the scenes. The ceasefire is expected to begin May 9 and run through May 11, aligning with Russia’s annual World War II victory commemorations.
The announcement immediately sent shockwaves through the geopolitical world, as both sides have spent months trading missile strikes, drone attacks, and artillery fire while peace talks repeatedly collapsed.
