In one of the most sweeping child exploitation crackdowns in U.S. history, federal authorities have just wrapped up a high-stakes investigation that sent shockwaves through the darkest corners of the internet. Dubbed “Operation Grayskull,” the DOJ-led sting operation exposed and dismantled four depraved dark web platforms trafficking in child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — some of which were among the most vile ever encountered.

Acting in coordination with the FBI, multiple U.S. Attorneys’ offices, and international partners, the operation already boasts 18 convictions and a long list of heavy prison sentences. But the details of what investigators uncovered are enough to leave any decent human being sickened.

Dark Web Monsters Brought to Light

Among the worst offenders: 52-year-old Thomas Peter Katsampes of Eagan, Minnesota, who was handed a staggering 250-month prison sentence — over 20 years — followed by lifetime supervision. He was also ordered to pay $23,000 in restitution. Katsampes had pleaded guilty earlier this year to distributing and promoting child pornography through one of the dark web platforms.
