JUST IN: Newsom VETOES Bill Allowing Illegals to Buy Homes!

In a surprising move, California Governor Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that aimed to provide illegal immigrants with interest-free loans and zero-down-payment options for purchasing homes. The bill, Assembly Bill 1840, was introduced by Democratic Assemblymember Joaquin Arambula and sought to extend the state’s first-time homebuyer loan program to undocumented residents. Had it passed, the legislation would have offered illegal immigrants a significant advantage in the state’s housing market.

Earlier this year, Democratic lawmakers in California, led by Arambula, pushed for the passage of Assembly Bill 1840, which would have created a path for illegal immigrants to access zero-down-payment home loans. The bill proposed that illegal immigrants could qualify for a loan covering 20% of the home’s purchase price, with no monthly payments and zero interest. Borrowers would be expected to repay the loan only upon selling or refinancing the property, along with an additional 20% of the home’s increased value.

The bill gained significant traction in the state legislature, where California Senate Democrats overwhelmingly approved it. The idea was to offer undocumented residents the same homeownership opportunities as citizens and legal residents. However, the legislation faced harsh criticism from conservatives who argued it unfairly prioritized illegal immigrants over U.S. citizens struggling with rising housing costs.
