JUST IN: NASA Confirms SpaceX Rescue Mission!

In a dramatic turn of events, NASA has announced that two American astronauts, stranded aboard the International Space Station (ISS) for months, will finally return to Earth—but not aboard the spacecraft that took them there. Instead of Boeing’s beleaguered Starliner, the astronauts will hitch a ride back on a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule, marking yet another chapter in the ongoing saga of Boeing’s troubled space program.

Astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams have been living in a state of prolonged limbo since early June when their Boeing Starliner spacecraft malfunctioned mid-flight. Originally slated to stay in space for just eight days, their mission has now stretched into months, with NASA scrambling to find a safe way to bring them home.

The decision to use a SpaceX vehicle, rather than the Boeing craft that brought them to the ISS, was not made lightly. NASA Administrator Bill Nelson addressed the situation in a news briefing on Saturday, emphasizing that the safety of the astronauts was the agency’s top priority. “Spaceflight is risky—even at its safest and even at its most routine—and a test flight, by nature, is neither safe nor routine, and so the decision to keep Butch and Suni aboard the International Space Station and bring the Boeing Starliner home uncrewed is a result of a commitment to safety,” Nelson stated.
