The push to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) over her inflammatory remarks about the assassination of Charlie Kirk completely collapsed on Wednesday after a handful of Republicans broke ranks and joined Democrats to block the effort.
Just a day earlier, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-NC) had introduced a motion to remove Omar from two committees and one subcommittee. The move came after Omar dismissed Republican outrage over Kirk’s death, saying the GOP was “full of s**t” for condemning her comments.
But when the moment came to advance the measure, four Republican lawmakers crossed over to help Democrats shut it down. Their decision stopped the censure resolution before it could even reach the full House for debate.
The procedural vote to table the resolution—essentially killing it without a full vote—passed by the slimmest possible margin, 214-213.
