The Biden Justice Department just hit a wall in its attempt to seize control of Washington, D.C.’s police force — and it wasn’t pretty.
On Friday, Judge Ana Reyes, a Biden appointee, ripped into DOJ lawyers during a tense hearing over President Trump’s federal law-and-order push in the capital. D.C. officials filed an emergency bid to block the move after Attorney General Pam Bondi placed the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration at the top of the city’s chain of command.
Bondi’s order named DEA chief Terry Cole as the city’s “emergency police commissioner,” giving him the authority of a police chief in the middle of Trump’s federal intervention to stop violent crime. The Associated Press confirmed the appointment, noting the extraordinary powers Bondi handed over.
But it didn’t take long for the courtroom to turn into a circus. Judge Reyes berated DOJ attorneys after discovering they had even misspelled Cole’s name in the official order. She went further, demanding the administration walk back its directive entirely.
