A federal judge appointed by President Donald Trump has temporarily blocked the administration from enforcing its ban on CNN, MS NOW and Politico at the White House, ordering the outlets’ press credentials restored.
U.S. District Judge Timothy J. Kelly issued the temporary restraining order early Thursday, September 24, after the three news organizations challenged the administration’s decision in federal court. The order applies for 14 days while the broader legal battle continues.
Kelly’s ruling represents an unusual moment in the ongoing confrontation between the Trump administration and major news organizations. The judge was nominated by Trump in 2017 and previously handled litigation involving CNN correspondent Jim Acosta’s White House access during Trump’s first term.
