Judge Drops Shock Ruling in Minnesota Church Protest Case

A federal magistrate judge has ordered the release of Minnesota church protester William Kelly, marking the final release of all three activists involved in the chaotic disruption of a St. Paul church service that shocked worshippers and ignited a national backlash.

On Friday, Magistrate Judge Shannon Elkins ruled that there was no legal basis to keep Kelly in federal custody ahead of trial. The decision means every individual charged in connection with the church incident is now free while their cases move forward.

Kelly had been arrested and charged with conspiracy to deprive rights, a serious federal offense, along with violating the FACE Act under 18 USC 248. Federal authorities accused him of taking part in an organized effort to storm a church and intimidate parishioners during a Sunday service.

When Kelly was taken into custody earlier this week, he was wearing his now notorious “F*ck Trump” beanie, a detail that quickly spread across social media and conservative news outlets as a symbol of the radical politics involved in the incident.
