Johnson Fires Back at Democratic Socialists

As the United States celebrates 250 years since its founding, one of the nation’s top Republican leaders is warning that America faces a growing ideological challenge unlike anything seen in recent decades.

House Speaker Mike Johnson argued that the increasing popularity of self-described democratic socialists is not simply another political trend but a direct challenge to the principles on which the country was established. His warning comes as progressive candidates continue gaining attention in several major cities, fueling concerns among conservatives that far-left policies are becoming increasingly mainstream.

Appearing on Fox News Sunday, Johnson told host Shannon Bream that the political movement gaining traction after Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York should not be dismissed as an isolated event. Instead, he said Republicans and Americans across the country should recognize it as part of a much broader national movement.
