Louisiana Senator John Kennedy didn’t mince words when he ripped into Republican obstructionists standing in the way of a crucial conservative legislative package. In classic Kennedy fashion, the straight-talking Senator dropped truth bombs on so-called Republicans who seem more interested in appeasing Democrats than fighting for the conservative agenda.
And at the center of this showdown? RINO Rep. Mike Lawler of New York, who’s leading a group of Northeastern Republicans determined to derail what President Trump calls “one big, beautiful bill.”
Lawler and his New York allies are trying to hold the line for one thing: lifting the cap on the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction. This deduction has long been a tax loophole that allows blue states to jack up taxes with impunity, knowing their voters can simply write off the difference on federal returns. It’s a subsidy for left-wing governments, plain and simple.
Back in 2017, President Trump’s tax cuts put a stop to that, capping the deduction at $10,000. That move finally forced blue state voters to feel the sting of their own liberal policies.
