Among the 850,000 accounts Cena follows, a handful have sparked outrage, including those of Gab CEO Andrew Torba, anti-feminist Pearl Davis, and white nationalist Richard Spencer.
The outcry reached a peak when Rolling Stone published an article on Monday, lambasting Cena for his choice of follows. The article paints a stark picture of the social media landscape under Elon Musk’s ownership, which began in October 2022. Rolling Stone’s Miles Klee expressed concern over what he sees as the platform’s leniency towards “misinformation” and “hate speech,” implying that Cena’s actions are symptomatic of a broader issue with X.
