Democrats wasted no time reaching for their favorite political shield in the aftermath of the horrific Thanksgiving-week attack on two National Guard members stationed near the White House. Instead of confronting the dangerous immigration failures that led to the bloodshed, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries chose a different route: point the finger at President Donald Trump.
In an interview with the newly rebranded MS NOW, Jeffries attempted to draw a line between a radicalized Afghan migrant and the administration’s public-safety deployments—an accusation that immediately ignited backlash across the country. Speaking with host Jen Psaki, President Joe Biden’s former press-secretary-turned-cable-anchor, Jeffries claimed the Trump team needed to answer for placing Guard units in crime-plagued cities.
“I think the Trump administration is going to have to justify to the American people why these actions are being taken as part of the broader effort to deploy National Guard troops all across the country,” Jeffries said.
He doubled down, insisting Americans were owed an explanation for Trump’s ongoing strategy to support state and local law enforcement. Jeffries continued, “These are reasonable questions that the American people deserve answers to, not simply in the context of the actions that Donald Trump and the Secretary of Defense have taken today, but generally, in terms of understanding what their overall public safety strategy may be in a country where so many Americans understandably have concluded that things are moving in the wrong direction over the last year or so, and that we’ve got to find a better path forward.”
