Kennedy Raises Questions About Drugs and Mental Health
Speaking alongside Texas Gov. Greg Abbott at a press event, Kennedy did not shy away from pointing a finger at the powerful pharmaceutical industry and America’s overuse of psychiatric drugs. He said it is “certainly” possible that the medications given to Westman during his transition played a role in fueling his instability.
“Mass shootings are a health crisis, and we are doing for the first time real studies to find out what the ideology of that is. And we’re looking for the first time at psychiatric drugs,” Kennedy declared.
Kennedy, who has long questioned the safety of certain pharmaceutical practices, contrasted today’s culture of medicating young people with his own childhood.

“Kids, my classmates, and other people would bring a .22 rifle with their guns to school and park it in the parking lot. Nobody was shooting… There’s never been a time in the history of humanity when people walked into a crowd, into a church, or a movie theater, or a school, or a crowd and just started randomly shooting. It’s happening in our country. It’s not happening around the world.”
“Something Changed” in America
Kennedy pointed out that gun ownership levels in other countries are comparable to the United States, yet random mass shootings remain almost exclusively an American phenomenon.
“Something changed,” he warned. “And it dramatically changed human behavior.”
He then raised the issue of overmedication, a cornerstone of his “Make America Healthy Again” agenda.
“And one of the culprits we need to examine is whether the fact that we are the most over-medicated population in the world. And a lot of those are psychiatric drugs that have black box warnings on them that warn of suicidal and homicidal ideation.”
Family Stonewalling Investigation
While Kennedy moves forward with his investigation, authorities are running into roadblocks. The shooter’s mother, Mary Grace Westman, has hired a criminal defense attorney and is refusing to cooperate with investigators. NBC News reports she has even left her Florida residence, making it harder for police to track her down.
Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara confirmed that other family members are cooperating, but the mother’s silence has only deepened suspicions about what she knew regarding her son’s prescriptions and mental health struggles.
What Comes Next
RFK Jr.’s probe into psychiatric drugs marks a major shift in how the federal government is willing to talk about mass shootings. For decades, Democrats have focused almost exclusively on gun control. Kennedy is instead demanding answers about Big Pharma, the drugging of America’s youth, and whether these prescriptions are fueling violence.
The investigation is expected to dig into Westman’s medical records to determine what medications he was prescribed and how they may have affected his behavior leading up to the murders. Whether this probe will finally shine a light on the role of psychiatric drugs in mass shootings remains to be seen — but for now, Kennedy has put the pharmaceutical industry on notice.
