Ilhan Omar No-Show Triggers Political Firestorm

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

According to Robbins, Omar had been asked to testify regarding the MEALS Act, a federal COVID-era relief measure from 2020 that Omar sponsored. The legislation expanded access to child nutrition funding during the pandemic and has since come under increased scrutiny due to its connection to later fraud investigations.

Robbins said Omar’s office did not respond to the original invitation, which led the committee to escalate its demands. Rather than oral testimony, Robbins is now requesting a wide range of written records, including communications tied to Omar’s advocacy for expanded meal program access.

The request includes emails, text messages, and meeting notes involving the Minnesota Department of Education, constituents, and outside organizations connected to child nutrition programs that later became part of the Feeding Our Future scandal.

That case, which federal prosecutors describe as a massive fraud scheme involving pandemic relief funds, has already resulted in multiple indictments and allegations that hundreds of millions of dollars were improperly diverted from federal child nutrition programs.

Robbins’ letter also focuses on Omar’s past public promotion of Safari Restaurant, a Minneapolis establishment later linked to meal distribution operations under the program. Lawmakers say a Somali-language television appearance featuring Omar was shown during Tuesday’s hearing, where she highlighted the restaurant’s participation in the program.

The committee is now seeking all communications connected to that appearance, as well as any records related to the restaurant’s involvement in the federal funding program.

Robbins did not hold back when speaking to Fox News Digital about Omar’s absence and lack of response.

“She didn’t even respond, ghosted us,” Robbins told Fox News Digital. “And her Meals Act is what created the conditions that allowed Feeding Our Future to happen.”

When asked whether Omar had engaged with the committee at any point, Robbins said there has been no communication at all.

“No, we’ve sent multiple emails, multiple letters, nothing.”

The document request extends even further, asking for records of any contact between Omar and individuals who have been charged or implicated in the Feeding Our Future investigation. This includes nonprofit founder Aimee Bock, along with dozens of alleged co-conspirators named in the federal case.

In addition, Robbins is requesting disclosure of any political donations Omar may have received from individuals later accused in the fraud scheme, as well as any related communications.

The committee has set a deadline of May 5 for Omar to respond in writing and provide the requested documents.

Robbins, who is also running for governor of Minnesota, has positioned the investigation as part of a broader effort to uncover how pandemic-era funding was managed and whether political connections played any role in oversight failures.

The renewed scrutiny comes as Feeding Our Future remains one of the most high-profile fraud cases tied to COVID relief programs nationwide, with federal prosecutors continuing to pursue additional defendants.

Meanwhile, Omar is also dealing with increased political pressure from national Republicans, who have raised questions about her financial disclosures and other unrelated allegations in recent months.

As the controversy continues to grow, the dispute between state Republicans and one of Minnesota’s most prominent Democratic lawmakers shows no sign of cooling down.
