Rep. Ilhan Omar has cleared the first major hurdle of her 2026 reelection campaign, easily securing the Democratic nomination in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District and putting herself on track for another November showdown.
Omar dominated Tuesday’s Democratic-Farmer-Labor primary, taking more than 80% of the vote and turning back challenges from Julie T. Le, Abena McKenzie, Latonya Reeves and Nate Schluter. CBS News projected Omar as the winner as the results came in.
The decisive victory puts Omar in position to pursue another term in Congress while continuing her high-profile battle with President Donald Trump and his administration, particularly over immigration enforcement.
