California Governor Gavin Newsom thought he had staged the perfect press event. Cameras were rolling, reporters were gathered, and the spotlight was fixed on him as he prepared to unveil his latest partisan scheme.
But what Newsom didn’t count on was federal law enforcement stealing the show. And in the process, they sent him a message he won’t soon forget.
On Thursday, Newsom arrived at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles expecting to bask in praise for his redistricting announcement. His plan? To redraw five congressional districts – a move widely seen as an attempt to counter Republican-led maps in Texas.
The governor hyped the event as a crusade to “protect democracy.” But before he could deliver his rehearsed talking points, something happened that instantly shifted the narrative.
Dozens of ICE and Border Patrol agents appeared outside the building, heavily armed and carrying out operations. Their presence was impossible to ignore.
