ICE Facility Under Siege: 100 Nights Straight!

>> Continued From the Previous Page <<

Federal authorities are now focusing on domestic extremist groups loosely affiliated with antifa, the far-left collective that made headlines for its violence in 2020.

ICE Director: “We Don’t Have the Authority to Step In”

Cammila Wamsley, director of Portland’s ICE office, painted a chilling picture of the nightly assaults.

“I just, I can’t figure out what’s happening at the FDA. I’m totally baffled by it,” Wamsley said, expressing frustration at seeing federal staff targeted outside the building while her officers remain powerless. “It’s frustrating for us to watch people be attacked on the street and know that we don’t have the authority to be able to really step in unless there’s some nexus to federal law.”

Her agents, she explained, are barricading themselves inside while city leaders order local police to stand down.

From Protest to Urban Warfare

According to Wamsley, what started with chanting and signs has now escalated into outright urban warfare.

Crowds have hurled glass bottles at the facility, shattered windows, blocked ICE vehicles from moving in or out, and aimed powerful lasers into officers’ eyes.

The intimidation is personal, too. At least six ICE employees have been doxxed, their private information spread online.

“Later, towards the evening and around dark, there are a lot of folks that come up dressed in all black,” Wamsley said. “They are here to wreak havoc. They’ll block our cars, throw paint, damage property and even try to follow our folks home.”

Outnumbered and Under Siege

Wamsley warned that the mobs can swell rapidly, overwhelming federal manpower in minutes.

“We’ve seen it before. The folks here can go from a crowd of 50 to a crowd of 1,000 in 30 minutes,” she said. “Sometimes we only have 20 officers here. We would not be able to defend the building with that show of force.”

Even worse, when ICE calls Portland Police for backup, help rarely comes. Wamsley said response times are slow — if officers show up at all — because of city hall’s directives.

“That is not the stance they would take six blocks from here, but it is the stance they take with us because of guidance from the mayor and city council,” she explained.

Agents Remain Defiant

Despite the nightly onslaught, Wamsley insists that her officers remain committed to their mission. Deportations will continue, and the law will be enforced.

“The people that work here are here to serve the American public,” she said. “They are here to enforce the same immigration laws we’ve had in place since the 1950s. Nothing has changed in that regard. We come to work every day. We do our job the way we have been doing it, and we’ll continue to do that.”

Bottom Line

For over 100 nights, radical activists have turned Portland into a war zone. Federal officers are besieged, local leaders refuse to act, and the violence grows by the day. What happens next may depend on whether Washington decides to step in where Portland won’t.
