California has become the center of another massive fraud scandal, and this time, some of the country’s most vulnerable people were allegedly used to help criminals cash in on taxpayer-funded health care programs.
Federal prosecutors have charged 15 individuals, including six medical professionals, in connection with schemes involving approximately $2 billion in allegedly fraudulent insurance claims.
The accusations involve everything from unnecessary medical procedures to questionable hospice enrollments and elaborate operations that recruited homeless Americans with promises of free housing and other benefits.
