With Trump back on the campaign trail and vowing to reinstate his America First immigration policies, deportations are already underway, according to Homan. Speaking to Fox News on Tuesday, the former Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) director confirmed that enforcement actions have ramped up nationwide. “We’re doing what should have been done all along—enforcing the law,” Homan said.
But not everyone is on board with these measures. Democrats, particularly progressive figures like Ocasio-Cortez, have fiercely opposed Trump’s immigration agenda. In a fiery social media post, the New York congresswoman offered advice to illegal immigrants on how to avoid deportation.
“SHARE WIDELY. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a tweet that quickly went viral. “With mass deportations starting today across the country, it is vitally important – for both citizens and non-citizens – to know your rights. You do NOT have to speak to ICE without a JUDICIAL warrant.”
Ocasio-Cortez also shared a graphic outlining what she described as key legal protections for undocumented immigrants. The infographic advised individuals to not open their doors unless ICE presents a “valid warrant signed by a judge” and encouraged them to “assert” their “right to remain silent.” She urged people to distribute the materials widely, stating, “Print it out and keep it in your wallet or on your fridge for reference and safe keeping.”
Homan, however, slammed the congresswoman’s actions, accusing her of undermining law enforcement and encouraging illegal activity. “This is the kind of rhetoric that makes it harder for us to do our jobs,” he said. “When you have members of Congress essentially telling people how to avoid the law, it’s a slap in the face to every American citizen and legal immigrant who followed the rules.”
Ocasio-Cortez’s opposition didn’t stop there. She also took aim at the proposed Laken Riley Act, which would streamline deportations for undocumented immigrants accused of crimes. In a passionate speech on the House floor, she argued that the legislation violated fundamental American values.
“In this bill, if a person is so much as accused of a crime, if someone wants to point a finger and accuse someone of shoplifting, they will be rounded up and put into a private detention camp and signed and sent out for deportation without a day in court,” Ocasio-Cortez claimed. “Private prison companies are going to get flooded with money.”

Trump’s renewed focus on immigration enforcement has triggered a firestorm of reactions, with Democrats accusing him of cruelty and overreach while Republicans praise his commitment to border security. Homan dismissed the criticism as partisan theatrics, arguing that Trump’s policies prioritize the safety and security of the American people.
“The law is clear, and the American people have made their voices heard. They want secure borders, and they want their communities protected,” Homan said.
As the immigration debate heats up ahead of the 2024 election, the clash between Trump’s tough-on-border policies and progressive opposition like Ocasio-Cortez’s shows no signs of slowing down. For millions of Americans, the stakes couldn’t be higher.
