As the 2024 campaign season heats up, concerns are mounting within the Democratic Party, particularly among those working for the Harris-Walz campaign. Many staffers are sounding the alarm about the lack of visibility and engagement from Vice President Kamala Harris on the campaign trail, pointing to a notable absence of rallies in crucial swing states and limited media appearances. These concerns come in stark contrast to former President Donald Trump, who has maintained a relentless campaign schedule, drawing crowds in battleground states and staying at the forefront of national attention.
According to a report from Politico, citing nearly two dozen Democratic strategists and campaign staffers, there is a growing sense of unease about the campaign’s strategy. Many fear that Harris’s campaign is too focused on a cautious, “do-no-harm” approach, which, according to some, could ultimately backfire. One staffer reportedly expressed frustration over Harris only spending three days in key swing states during the last week of September, while Trump managed to attend multiple rallies within a single day, as well as make high-profile appearances, such as attending the Alabama-Georgia college football game.

Democratic strategists are urging Harris to break away from the scripted, highly controlled environment and engage with voters in more authentic, unscripted settings. They argue that events like town halls, sit-down interviews, and impromptu exchanges with voters would allow her to connect with the public in a more genuine manner. The timing of Harris attending a fundraiser in San Francisco while Trump was drawing attention at a major college football game further fueled concerns that her campaign may be missing key opportunities to connect with voters.
