A Democrat judge in New Mexico has abruptly resigned after federal agents swarmed his property and arrested an armed illegal alien with suspected gang ties — and the entire scandal is blowing up fast.

Jose “Joel” Cano, a longtime magistrate judge in Doña Ana County, suddenly stepped down from the bench in March, shortly after Homeland Security agents raided his Las Cruces residence and discovered something no judge should be involved with — a 23-year-old illegal alien from Venezuela, living steps from his home, in possession of multiple firearms.

That illegal alien, Cristhian Ortega-Lopez, is now facing serious federal charges after officials say he was caught red-handed with weapons and is believed to be tied to the brutal Tren de Aragua gang — a violent criminal organization out of Venezuela known for its drug trafficking and human smuggling operations.
According to investigators, Ortega-Lopez had been living in a back “casita” on Cano’s property. How did he end up there? The judge’s wife, Nancy Cano, allegedly met Ortega-Lopez while he was working as a handyman, and the relationship appears to have gone far beyond a simple work arrangement.
