The battle for America’s judiciary just got more intense as powerful Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley threw his full support behind President Donald J. Trump’s demand to cancel the upcoming August recess. The goal? Break through Democrat roadblocks and confirm the mountain of stalled judicial nominees before the clock runs out.
Over the weekend, Trump didn’t mince words when he urged Senate Majority Leader John Thune to scrap the Senate’s August vacation. The reason was clear—Democrats have been blocking nominees left and right, and the country can’t wait any longer.
“Hopefully the very talented John Thune, fresh off our many victories over the past two weeks and, indeed, 6 months, will cancel August recess (and long weekends!), in order to get my incredible nominees confirmed. We need them badly!!! DJT,” Trump posted on Saturday.
Grassley, a longtime ally of Trump and no stranger to Senate power plays, responded the very next day with a strong message: he’s ready to work through the summer and get the job done.
