In a heated discussion on Fox News’ Special Report, former Congressman Trey Gowdy found himself at the center of controversy after labeling former Florida GOP Congressman Matt Gaetz, President Trump’s pick for Attorney General, as “corrupt.” However, Mollie Hemingway of The Federalist didn’t let the accusation slide, delivering a sharp response that left no doubt about her stance.

The panel discussion, hosted by Bret Baier, revolved around Trump’s bold nominations for his prospective second-term administration. Among the names was Matt Gaetz, a staunch ally of Trump, whose nomination sparked immediate backlash from Gowdy.

During the panel, Gowdy didn’t hold back in his assessment, calling Gaetz’s selection “dumbfounding.” He alleged that Gaetz left Congress to dodge sanctions from a House Ethics Committee investigation. “You don’t root out corruption at the Department of Justice by picking a corrupt person to lead it,” Gowdy said, expressing disbelief over the nomination. He further claimed that Gaetz’s nomination overshadowed Trump’s other strong picks, saying, “That dumbfounding pick is just sucking the oxygen out of all the good ones he made.”
