Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy found himself at the center of controversy yet again after dismissing the idea of former President Donald Trump brokering peace between Ukraine and Russia. During a recent interview with Ukraine’s public broadcaster Suspilne, Zelenskyy downplayed Trump’s promise to end the war in a single day, prompting a sharp retort from billionaire Elon Musk.

Zelenskyy, who has received billions in financial aid from the Biden administration to support Ukraine’s efforts against Russian aggression, acknowledged the worsening conditions in eastern Ukraine. However, he scoffed at Trump’s negotiation capabilities, suggesting the former president’s claims were outlandish. Trump, known for his best-selling book The Art of the Deal, has repeatedly asserted his ability to swiftly resolve the conflict.

“No, I think he does not say that,” Zelenskyy remarked while laughing. “We are an independent Ukraine, and it seems to me that during this war, our people, and I personally, in negotiations with the United States and with Trump, Biden, and other European leaders, have proven that with us the rhetoric of sit and just listen is not working.”
