“The radical left has lost their minds – they would rather raid an ICE facility to defend criminal illegal immigrants than represent their own constituents,” Carter told Fox News in a fiery statement. He labeled the incident “an embarrassment to Congress” and “a direct attack on law enforcement.”
Carter further added, “This behavior constitutes an assault on our brave ICE agents and undermines the rule of law. The three members involved in this stunt do not deserve to sit on committees alongside serious lawmakers.”
The Delaney Hall facility, which houses individuals detained for immigration violations—including those with gang affiliations like MS-13—was in the middle of a detainee transfer when the lawmakers and activists stormed the grounds. According to DHS officials, the disruption created a “dangerous and chaotic” situation that placed officers and detainees alike at risk.
In a scathing statement issued following the incident, the Department of Homeland Security condemned the actions of the lawmakers. “These members of Congress storming into a detention facility goes beyond a bizarre political stunt and puts the safety of our law enforcement agents and the detainees at risk,” DHS stated.
The department emphasized that the lawmakers completely disregarded established procedures. “Members of Congress are not above the law and cannot illegally break into detention facilities. Had these members requested a tour, we would have facilitated a tour of the facility,” DHS added.
Despite the fallout, House Democrats are circling the wagons. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) came out swinging, attempting to deflect attention away from the controversy and place blame on the Trump administration instead.
“The concerns of elected officials about this unsanctioned facility will not be silenced by the Trump administration’s attempt to intimidate the public. We will never bend the knee,” Jeffries said defiantly.
Still, Republicans say this kind of behavior can’t go unchecked. With a resolution now on the House floor, pressure is mounting for Democratic leadership to respond—or risk sending a message that mob-style tactics are acceptable behavior for members of Congress.
In today’s climate, where law and order are increasingly under assault, this confrontation at a federal immigration facility has thrown gasoline on an already raging fire. Whether the resolution passes or not, one thing is clear—tensions in Congress over immigration enforcement have reached a boiling point.
