As the 2026 midterm elections loom, the stakes have never been higher for the Republican Party. During a recent appearance on the Fox Business show “Kudlow,” former Speaker Newt Gingrich delivered a stark warning. According to Gingrich, the Republican majority must swiftly enact President Donald Trump’s economic policies, including tax cuts and incentives, to avoid a devastating loss similar to previous administrations during their midterms.
Gingrich highlighted the critical importance of quick legislative victories on key issues like tax reductions, deregulation, and enhancing energy affordability. He emphasized that achieving these victories by June is crucial to bolster the economy by November 2026. Gingrich expressed bafflement at the Republican leadership’s lack of urgency, recounting his experiences and the lessons learned from history. He noted, “Reagan lost 26 seats in the first off-year election because his tax cuts didn’t go into effect until 1983. Trump lost 42 seats in his first off-year election because the tax bill didn’t pass until October.”

The former Speaker further elaborated on the need for President Trump to actively campaign in strategic districts. He pinpointed 34 districts where Trump’s influence could swing the vote. Gingrich stated, “They need to get the bill clear, make sure that we know what’s in it, and then for about 10 weeks, we need President Trump back on the road.”
