With immunity in hand and her appeal process underway, speculation is surging that Maxwell is gunning for something even bigger—a possible clemency deal from President Donald Trump. If that wasn’t enough, he added: “She’s been treated unfairly for the past five years. She didn’t get a fair trial.”
Trump, who was traveling in Scotland when reporters caught wind of the DOJ meetings, brushed off the idea of a pardon for now, saying, “This is no time to be talking about pardons.” But with Maxwell’s meetings now public and her testimony slated for the House Oversight Committee on August 11, the story isn’t going away anytime soon.
Blanche reportedly told aides that “no lead is off-limits,” and Markus confirmed that Maxwell “didn’t invoke the Fifth Amendment.” That’s a far cry from her previous legal posture—and a dramatic pivot from the government’s own stance just two years ago.
Back in 2022, the DOJ openly accused Maxwell of showing “a significant pattern of dishonest conduct” and claimed she had refused to accept responsibility. They even refused her a plea deal after Epstein’s death in federal custody in 2019. But now, suddenly, Maxwell’s being heard out. Why?
Markus offered a clue: Epstein’s legal team had supposedly been told that “no potential co-conspirators would be prosecuted” as part of the financier’s negotiations with the feds.
“I don’t think President Trump knows that the Justice Department took the position that that promise should not be upheld,” Markus said.
This new round of meetings also throws cold water on a July 6 memo from the DOJ and FBI, which claimed there was “no credible evidence” that Epstein blackmailed anyone or kept a “client list.” That claim has drawn criticism across the aisle, especially given the high-profile names linked to Epstein’s circle—figures like Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, and even Trump himself.
The former president has repeatedly denied ever setting foot on Epstein’s infamous island and reportedly banned Epstein from Mar-a-Lago after a troubling incident involving a club member’s underage daughter back in 2004.
Whether Maxwell’s revelations will change the DOJ’s tune—or the public’s perception of who was involved—remains to be seen. But one thing is clear: the Epstein web is far from untangled, and Maxwell’s sudden willingness to name names could ignite a political and legal firestorm.
