California Gov. Gavin Newsom is increasingly venturing far beyond the borders of the Golden State.
But a recent trip to South Carolina offered a reminder that his California record could become one of the central issues surrounding any future presidential campaign.
Newsom traveled through the Palmetto State in September, ostensibly helping Democrats ahead of the midterm elections. The trip also generated the kind of attention expected whenever a nationally prominent governor visits an early presidential primary state.
