A special election for the Maine State House of Representatives was held on Tuesday.
Rep. Clinton Collamore, a Democrat, reportedly left office in February after he allegedly “forged signatures to collect public campaign funds, totaling $14,000, and violated the Maine Clean Elections Act,” News Center Maine reports.

Abden Simmons, a Republican, and Wendy Pieh, a Democrat, squared off in the most recent special election on Tuesday.
With a 52% to 48% advantage, Simmons wins and takes the coveted House District 45 seat.
Many people were shocked by the Republican party’s surprising victory in Maine.

According to the Maine Department of the Secretary of State, Rep. Simmons wins with 1,438 votes, while Rep. Pieh obtains 1,317 votes.
Simmons has been chosen to represent Bremen, Friendship, Louds Island Township, Waldoboro, and Washington following the departure of Democrat Rep. Clinton Collamore.
