Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Republican, attacks the long-established “uniparty” in Washington, D.C., and commends Florida people for instigating a historic “regime change” that resulted in the removal of two Speakers of the California House, one from each party.
During the Florida Freedom Summit in Kissimmee, Rep. Gaetz made a vehement speech outlining his intention to remove Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and install Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) in his stead. Johnson, according to Gaetz, is a “great conservative” and a “proud Christian” who will unite Republicans against the failed policies of Congress Democrats and President Joe Biden.

“When we elected a Republican House of Representatives, I figured it was about time we started acting like Republicans again!” He called out, drawing applause from the crowd. Rep. Gaetz remarked of his early days in office that Republican leaders “sat me down and said I just lacked patience. But it seemed more to me that they lacked courage.”
Watch Rep. Gaetz’s whole speech below:
McCarthy is ousted as Speaker of the House following a revolt led by Representative Gaetz and seven other Republicans. Discontent with his government budget agreement with Democrats and his predilection for omnibus measures over specific spending goals drove the rallies.
“When Republicans keep acting like Democrats, I will be in the battle with you and I’ll fight them too!” He shouted for more applause. “I oppose most regime change abroad, but it was necessary to conduct a little regime change here at home in the people’s House.”
Gaining four more Republican congressman during the last ten years as a result of Florida’s population increase has strengthened the GOP dominance. The GOP’s successful seizure of the Speaker’s gavel from Rep. Nancy Pelosi was largely due to this increase of support.
“In a way, you can say that it was Florida that led to the firing of not one, but two liberal California Speakers!” he added.

Speaker Johnson’s opposition to President Biden’s $100 billion proposal to fund Israel’s battle against Hamas has delighted conservatives. Johnson adopted a firm stance on his first day, suggesting that the IRS be defunded in order to pay for the expenses.
