In a particularly controversial twist, Fulton County allegedly failed to inform Georgia’s Secretary of State’s office of their plans to count ballots throughout the weekend. The lack of notification has escalated concerns, prompting the Secretary of State to deploy investigators to the affected counties. According to Georgia state senator Greg Dolezal, his office has been in contact with the Secretary of State and other officials to monitor the situation closely.
“I am in communication with the Secretary of State’s office and my Senate colleagues about this. The Secretary has sent investigators to all four locations and the outside monitoring teams (which were assigned specifically to observe Fulton for prior issues) are also deploying people to each location,” Dolezal said. “Fulton County did not inform the SoS office they would be doing this. I will continue to monitor this situation with my colleagues.”
With pressure mounting on election officials, three Republican state senators personally visited Fulton County on Saturday to observe the situation firsthand. Following their intervention, the four counties reportedly granted poll watchers access to the ballot-counting areas. However, according to state senator Brandon Beach, the situation may be even more severe than initially reported.
Beach, who was among the state senators who went to the Fulton County Government Services Center on Saturday, expressed shock at the lack of transparency surrounding the ballot-counting operations. He revealed that not only did Fulton County fail to inform the Secretary of State about the decision to open four locations for absentee ballots over the weekend, but even the Fulton County Board of Elections was unaware of this plan.
“The Fulton County Board of Elections had no knowledge of the last-minute decision to open 4 locations to accept absentee ballots this weekend. This was not discussed at their special called meeting last Wednesday (10/30),” Beach said. “Who made this decision and who decided to tell security to keep monitors/poll observers outside? I will be filing an Open Records Request to get answers. Election Integrity Matters!!”
Beach’s statement underscores his determination to pursue transparency and accountability. He plans to file an Open Records request to investigate who authorized the move and why poll watchers were initially barred from monitoring the process.
