Florida Republican Representative Anna Paulina Luna, a prominent voice in the MAGA movement, has made a dramatic exit from the House Freedom Caucus. Citing betrayal, political backstabbing, and a departure from “pro-family” values, Luna’s decision marks a significant shift within the conservative faction of Congress.
At the heart of Luna’s resignation is her push for a bipartisan measure allowing new parents in the House to vote remotely for 12 weeks after childbirth. She described the proposal as a “modest” and “family-centered” reform aimed at making Congress more accommodating for lawmakers with young children. The measure, co-sponsored with Democratic Representative Brittany Pettersen of Colorado, gathered strong bipartisan backing through a rare discharge petition, which secured signatures from over 200 Democrats and 11 Republicans.

Speaker Mike Johnson, a staunch opponent of proxy voting, called the proposal “unconstitutional,” while Representative Chip Roy of Texas voiced concerns over potential misuse and insisted lawmakers should be physically present for votes.
On March 27th, Luna accused members of her own party of attempting to kill her proposal through political maneuvering and threats. She took to social media to expose alleged backroom deals.
